A world develops in industrial automation and information management solutions, AVEVA created Wonderware Historian, a potent data historian. It is intended to gather, store, and analyse enormous volumes of current and past data from diverse industrial systems, devices, and processes.

To configure the Wonderware Historian to gather information from any Wonderware InTouch tag, you follow these general steps:

1. Install Wonderware Historian:

The server or PC where you wish to gather and store the data should first have the Wonderware Historian programme installed on it.

2. Configure InTouch Tagname Resolution:

You must make sure that the tag names you wish to gather data from are correctly resolved in the Wonderware InTouch development environment. In order to accomplish this, the Tagname Dictionary must be set up, and the InTouch programme must be made sure to recognise the tag names.

·        Open and start the Wonderware InTouch development environment.

·        Access the Tagname Dictionary: In the InTouch development environment, navigate to the “Window” menu and open the “Tagname Dictionary”.

·        Define Tagname Resolution: If a list of existing tags in Tagname Dictionary will be empty. You must specify the mapping between the tag names and appropriate data sources to configure tagname resolution.

·        Add a new tag and Save Tag: Click the “Add New” button in the Tagname Dictionary to create a new tag, Assign of information—Tagname, Description, I/O Address, etc and Click the “Save”.

·        Verify Tagname Resolution: Once the tagname has been established, you may refer to the tags in the InTouch application to confirm that they are accurate.

3. Configure Historian Synchronization:

It is necessary to set up the Historian synchronization settings in order to gather data from InTouch.

·        Open the Wonderware Historian Administrator: Launch the Wonderware Historian Administrator software on your server.

·        Connect to the Historian Server: Connect to the Wonderware Historian Server. Assign credentials and server information to initiate the connection.

·        Create or Select a Synchronization Group: Find the groups area in the Historian Administrator. To change a group’s settings, you may create a new or an existing.

·        Configure Synchronization Group Properties and Save and Apply Group Settings: You can define different data collection and parameters in the group attributes and click “Save” or “Apply”.

·        Start Synchronization: Data collection from the InTouch will start, and it will be stored in the Wonderware Historian.

4. Configure Tag Mapping:

You can map the InTouch tags to Historian tags in the settings for the Historian group.

·        Open and Connect to the Historian Server: Make a connection to the Wonderware Historian Server. Establish the connection, Assign credentials, and Server information.

·        Select the Synchronization Group: Find the group and customise the tag mapping in the Historian Administrator.

·        Define Tag Mapping: The list of available tags from the InTouch and their corresponding Historian tags are displayed side by side in the tag mapping settings.

·        Map InTouch Tags to Historian Tags: Find the relevant Historian tag for each InTouch tag, then map. You can accomplish this by choosing an InTouch tag and appropriate Historian tag from the list, then Save the tag mapping configuration.

·        Verify Tag Mapping: Check if the InTouch tags are currently linked to the appropriate Historian tags to make sure the tag mapping is configured appropriately.

5. Define Data Collection Parameters:

Set the sample rate, data compression preferences, and other data gathering options. The frequency of data collection and archival in the Historian is controlled by these variables.

·        Sampling Rate: How frequently data is gathered from the data source depends on the sample rate. Depending on your needs, you may adjust the sample rate based on time.

·        Data Compression: The Historian database’s data compression parameters determine how the collected data is kept. By deleting unnecessary data points, compression the amount of storage space needed. Compression parameters such as the technique, ratio, and thresholds may all be customised.

·        Tag Filters: You may collect data for certain tags or groups using tag filters. To the necessary data, you may set up filters based on the names of the tags& qualities.

·        Data Retention: The Historian database’s data retention settings control how long data is kept there before being automatically deleted. Retention periods can be determined based on time or by defining a maximum number of data points to keep.

·        Alarm and Event Collection: Historian can alarm and event data in addition to process data. Setup settings to alarms and events produced by the data source, then decide where to store.

6. Verify Data Collection:

Make that the Historian is receiving data from the InTouch tags and keeping an eye on the data collecting process. You may utilise Historian Client tools or query the Historian database.

·        Launch Historian Client Tools: Launch the Wonderware Historian Client Tools. Applications like Historian Client, Trend, or Query.

·        Connect to the Historian Server: Establish a connection to the Wonderware Historian Server to Assign credentials and server information to collect data.

·        Select the Data Source: Choose the relevant data source from the Historian Client, such as Wonderware InTouch, from which you are gathering data.

·        Retrieve and View Data: You may obtain and see the gathered data after locating the tags. To filter the data, you may give a time range or other specifications. Obtain the data from the data source, then confirm that it matches the predicted values.

·        Monitor Real-Time Values: Watch the real-time numbers shown in the Historian Client. Verify that these values are synchronised and updated properly by comparing them to the actual values from the data source.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, you must setup the group in the Wonderware Historian Administrator in order to set up Wonderware Historian to data from any Wonderware InTouch tag. Give the connection information for the InTouch application and choose “Wonderware InTouch” as the data source. This Historian may connect and get information from InTouch tags. By following these steps, you can effectively set up Wonderware Historian to collect data from Wonderware InTouch tag.
